Moving North

I Like Blizzards that look like this

Not the ones that look like this!
I Think most people know, but nothing is official until you blog about it right?... We're moving away from our lovely, warm, sunny, and recreational St George. Chad is finishing his Master's Thesis this summer and was accepted into the Exercise Science PHD program at the U this Fall.
He was also offered a teaching assistantship position in the program which is a HUGE bonus! He'll be teaching beginning level college courses and assisting the professors in the ES department. It is rare for them to offer things like this to first year students, so we're really excited about the opportunity.
I guess I've always known that living here was a temporary thing for us, it just stinks now that moving is a reality. (I've been dragging my feet and protesting for years and I've always gotten my way, but not this time) The up sides to the Move are...We get to live closer to Family and Friends up north and Chad gets to get started in this Program and eventually be done with school....Which are both SUCH great things. It will be so nice to be closer to Family. Bridger will get to grow up around his cousins, I can finally learn how to make my mother-in law's raspberry jam, learn how to sew from my Mom, and get to go see my little Sister's dance recitals and such.
I'm just not so good with change and you all know how I feel about cold weather! To be honest, I get a sick feeling in my gut just thinking about winter, and scrapping snow off my car, and not being able to go outside until May! How can i run outside if it's cold?? I'll just get fat and wear sweats everyday like I did at Snow College! Spring in St George starts in Feb! We've made such great Friends here and we'll be sad to leave.
Anyways, I need some good ole encouragement! How can I learn to enjoy the cold?? I'm really nervous about it.
We'll probably be moving mid July, So don't write us off of your friends list quite yet southerners!

Yeah!!!! That's such good news! We have to go play at the pool together with our little tinys this summer! As you know, winter comes fast, so we have to get as much pool time in as possible :) -Teisha

I'm sad... I'm just starting to get ready to "tri" again!
Something encouraging about moving North, huh? Hmmm. You can put on a TON of clothes and go run in the snow... IT WILL BE A GREAT WORK OUT! Like running on the sand... but different. :)
I'm totally up for meeting at the splash park this week. Hope I still have your new #. And do you and Chad want to do another slot canyon before you go? We should!
See you soon...

I'm sorry to say that I officially have no advice because we were in the same situation exactly one year ago and I still am not used to "north" weather! I always complain about wanting to move back to St George, what can I say I'm a warm weather girl! The only good thing, like you said was being closer to family and that outweighs the cold weather...sometimes! Good Luck with everything and tell Chad congrats! Maybe we'll see you at the Rodeo!

Hey thats really neat! Sorry though about leaving St George, I think I'd feel the same way as you cause I am not a cold weather person. Its hard and I recluse when its winter so I feel your pain. But I think being close to fam would be a huge bonus. I'd love to be closer to mine. Plus I'm up here so maybe we can get together and catch up!

TRUST me you will learn to love the snow from the very first minute you see Bridger playing in it! It is SO much fun watching little boys romp around in the snow and teaching them to make snowmen and snow angels and taking them sledding! Admittedly I do get a "winter coat" as I like to call it or an "extra layer" during the winter. But you'll burn tons of calories shoveling snow, climbing back up the hill after each time you slide down with Bridger, and making snowmen takes a lot more energy than I remember as a kid. Besides, now we can hang out and see you more!!! YEAHHH!! I'm glad you're moving. Do you know where you will be moving to? And Bridger is SO blond!! And such a cutie!

We lived in Salt Lake for Four years and I am the same way about the cold weather. However, I love Salt Lake in the Summertime. Plus there is so much entertainment there. Good luck with the move and adjusting to the weather.

You are funny and I wish I could give you some encouraging words on how you will adjust to the weather change but that is one BIG reason why we haven't moved. We DO love the weather here-- although I haven't always loved the hot weather with no seasons but it has grown on me so maybe a more seasonal climate can grow on you too. Hey look I did it. :) But if I could convince you to stay I would love to say you will hate it and be miserable so just stay but there are just too many pro's for you guys to go- you WILL be missed!!

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger ;) You'll survive and do just fine (and if you wear sweats everyday, there are much worse things!!!!!!) Good luck!

oh sugar...i too DONT love the cold...at AL....but i LOVE the beaautiful way the earth looks aftre the snow has fallen and hasnt been touched by car wheels or teent footprints.....it's so heavenly. and you'll get to see that often...and you will be close to a lot of fun things up there! and summers wont be as hot as they are here. sure, we get used to the heat and manage, but now you can drive with your windows down and feel the breeze in your hair! you will be happy...we will miss you so so so much, and we will all wait for you to post the recipe for your mil's raspberry jam!!! love you girlie! Okay....You totally know how sad I am about all of this :( I am also going to get fat because I won't have you to run with me! So I a going to try and give you encourangement for both of us, to make us both feel better, and since I am up North right now I have a few good things to say about up North!!

Shopping! Shopping! Shopping!!! I could really get in trouble here! ;)

Frontrunner! We rode it today from Ogden to Salt Lake and went to the Gateway shopping and had ice cream, it was beautiful weather and Daxton loved the train, just like Bridger will!

Fall! There is nothing more beautiful than Park City in the fall!

Camping! WAY more great campgrounds up North than South! And you can actually sleep while you are camping, since it isn't soooo hot!

I hope I am making you feel better because I am making myself sad that I have to go home on Tueday! But lets run on Wednesday?!!!

#1 you are really popular
#2 I like your witty post
#3 I DON'T WANT YOU TO MOVE!!!!!!!!
#4 I'm really happy for Chad
#5 I really don't want ya'll to move. Cru will miss Bridger so much. I will say I admire your ways of thinking. You express your feelings of the reality of the things you don't like but you are able to find those silver linings all throughout. Ya'll do have family up there and you can take lots of vacations down here... and your getting a house don't forget that part. I feel like we're closing a chapter in our lives. I don't like it Nobody hates change more than I do, so this isn't helping me AT ALL. I need to get you your plug so you can post Florida pics

I just figured out a good thing about winter. When you have girls, you won't have to fight with them over wearing modest clothes because they'll WANT to cover/bundle up. (Can you tell which battles we're fighting right now? Keep us posted...) I just realized I already commented... my bad!

The Simmons' said...

Yeah! We will try and make you play with us lots to keep you from missing the niceness too much! Also, you can go outside all summer, when sometimes it is too blisteringly hot down there.
PS-Earl will come and scrap your car...
